Crossing The Equator

We left Port Klang and Malaysia, and at about noon we sailed past Singapore, and had a good view of the City with Skyscrapers in the distance.

 

A small correction to yesterday, our next stop is Semarang in Indonesia, then Komodo island.

 

Today, just before crossing the equator, we had a visit from King Neptune and his entourage. Helen bravely volunteered to be thrown in to the pool, after cold ice treatment. But she did follow the Captain, Chief Officer and Hotel Manager!

Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia – next stop Komodo Island

Today we took a private tour, just the two of us and a guide in his car.

 

We went to see the Petronas Tower, Selangor Pewter, the Central Market, Railway station, Independent Square with the Selangor Club.

 

On the way Charles managed to find the RRI (Rubber Research Institute) on Jalan Ampang where Dad worked, the old house at 3 Jalan Eaton, which was still standing, and the Church – St Mary's Cathedral, including the font where he was christened. A nice trip back with lots of  nostalgia, but KL has changed beyond recognition.

We were at Port Klang on the boat, which is a good hour drive to KL. Also fitted in a show in the Neptune Lounge, a Lifeboat drill at 10[m, and a sail away party on the pool deck ... to bed by midnight!

 

We have a couple of days sailing to Komodo Island in Indonesia, passing Singapore about midday tomorrow, where there are dragons!

Burma and on to Malaysia

Next stop is Port Klang and Malaysia, where we hope to see Kuala Lumpur on a private trip.

Burma and Rangoon

For the last two days we have been moored just about 30 miles from Rangoon in Burma, or of course Yangon in Myanmar!

On the first day we had a short tour of the city, in funny little (seven seater, teak interior) buses, just two o them. We visited the center of the city, with the few remaining old colonial buildings, and also the concrete 'royal barge' in a lake, built in 1972. The train is first class - no glass in the windows!

We had tea in the Strand Hotel, a very civilized place in the center. More photos on the next posting!

Whee!

Port Blair in the Andaman islands

Just arriving here after two days at sea. Warm and humid weather. We have a tuk-tuk ride booked today to see the sights of the town.

Boarding the Ship - then on to Port Blair in the Andaman Islands

We made the ship  - on the second attempt for the tender from Galle Harbour, after the Captain had changed the mooring and swung the ship, we made it. The first time the swell was about 3 to 4 feet, and we broke a mooring rope. Luggage got delivered later, after the had winched up the launch.

All very professionally done. I can quite see why the shore tours had been cancelled.

We then unpacked all the tacky souvenirs that we had picked up in India, and went and had chips and unhealthy food (no curry!) in the Palms Restaurant.

Had dinner and caught up on the gossip. Then an early night, next stop is Port Blair in the Andaman Islands, but we have two sea days to chill!
