Back Home from our 10 day German River Cruise

We had breakfast, went to collect our car key (it was parked just opposite the terminal). We were called at 0730 and were in the car driving  back home by 0800. A very simple and quick process.

It being a Saturday, the M3 and M25 were clear, and we were at the small M&S by 1030 to buy Cauliflower Cheese for someone! Popped into Tesco at for a big shop, and home via the small Claydon CoOp by midday!

Had a jolly night the night before, two bottles of red were consumed in the Observatory Bar. The names of the participants will have to remain secret!

In Kiel

Today is Martin Luther day - a holiday in this state. Not much is open!

We chose to take a short coach trip to the entrance of the Kiel Canal, with a very informative talk by a local History Professor. We went to see the locks at the entrance of the canal, the lighthouse and where the Pilot Boats moored.

Change of Plans - Now at Kiel

There was a change of plans for the ship due to strong winds in the German Bight which would have made our transit through the Kiel Canal a little difficult, so instead of Bremen on the other side, we are moored in Kiel for two nights. Tomorrow is a Public Holiday!

Today we went to look at the Ship Museum which had an interesting Exhibition on 1918, when the Socialist Revolution came to Germany, starting on the Naval Boats at Kiel.

We then wandered into the City (about 300m away!) to do a spot of shopping.

Travemunde and Lubeck

Today we berthed right in the middle of Travemunde, which is at the mouth of teh Trave River to Lubeck.

We took a coach trip to Lubeck - we were supposed to do a boat trip as well but the Trave River was flooded! We looked around the Town Hall, St Michael's Church, had some Coffee and Marzipan Cake in a place that specialised in them for 6 generations.

We returned just in time for Lunch!
